<image:caption>Knowing the struggles: Burnam Burnam – also known as Harry Penrith – was born in 1936 at Wallaga Lake on the South Coast of NSW. He was an active campaigner for Land Rights and civil rights, but as a child he had been taken away from his family and spent long years in Kinchela Boys Home. So he knew about the problems many students faced. When he taught in classes, as he was doing in this photo, he talked to them not only about his activist campaigns but about the impact of the Stolen Generations separations and other government policies on Indigenous communities. <image:caption>Jacko Campbell on the front steps at Tranby, 1970s. Jacko was a Dhan-gati man, born and growing up at Kempsey, until his mother brought him and his family to Sydney to escape the Aborigines Protection Board ‘Kids’ Collector’. As a young man, Jacko lived at the Salt Pan Creek camp of the Andersons, on the Georges River. He later settled in Roseby Park, near Nowra on the south coast of NSW, where he married Nan Connolly. Jacko was a tireless campaigner for Land Rights and community control over sacred and significant sites. As a Board member at Tranby, Jacko initiated the Sites Curators’ Course there, mentoring all the students and encouraging them to be community advocates for control over their land and sites.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Over the next 12 months, Indigenous and non-Indigenous musicians from the first concert and many others who supported the goal of a shared, just future, donated a song each to a double album. Called Building Bridges: White Australia has a Black History, it was launched in Sydney and Melbourne in January 1989. The inner sleeve of the double album included the stunning list of Indigenous and non-Indigenous musicians and a powerful essay by Gary Foley.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Rock Against Racism concert in Melbourne in March 1983 was the start of using Music to challenge racism against Aboriginal people and all others.
